Ways to help

There are five areas. You can try one small thing, help once, move between them, or stop. None of this is a title or a ladder you are expected to climb.

1 The five areas

Hosting

Make one event welcoming and safely run. The lightest start is co-hosting a night with somebody experienced. If you take on a whole night, use hosting basics and the event guide.

Communications and marketing

Help people find what is coming and see what recent events felt like. Start with one accurate upcoming-events post or recap. Read communications and marketing.

Events, operations and partnerships

Get events ready and keep venue or partner threads moving without making promises on the spot. The two sides use operations and partnerships guides, but they are one area.

Moderation and safety

Look after the room and group spaces, respond when something feels wrong, and make sure concerns reach the right person. Read moderation and safety.

Product and technology

This path is planned, but it is not open yet. We first need a separate code workspace that does not expose the private vault or production systems. You can tell me you're interested now, but there are no code tasks or repository access to hand out yet. The future route is explained in product and technology.

2 Five facts, kept separate

Interest is what you might enjoy. Capability is what you have shown you can safely do in one area. Access is a specific account, folder or document you can use. An assignment is the thing you currently own. An acknowledgement or agreement records what you read or accepted.

One never silently creates another. Being curious does not give you a job. Reading a guide does not prove skill. Access does not mean everything on that platform is your responsibility.

3 How it can grow

Start with one bounded task. If you want another and the work shows you can do it safely, later assignments need less support. You might eventually own a named event, channel rhythm, queue or component for a defined period. That is responsibility in one area, not a global trust score.

More access is given only when the next task needs it, and removed when it does not. Pausing or stopping is always fine. Handing things over keeps that easy.

4 The rule that covers everything

Ask before anything that spends money, agrees something with a venue or partner, publishes a fact that is not already on the current event page, makes a new promise on our behalf, shares somebody's private information, or changes who can access what. If somebody may be unsafe, protect them first and call Martin.

If you are assigned communications work, facts already on the current event page can be promoted without waiting for approval. Check the page when you post.

5 Paid and unpaid

Ordinary co-hosting, first tasks and helping in these areas are unpaid unless you receive a separate written paid scope. A certified primary host carrying their own ticketed event can have the standard host deal, agreed in writing before tickets open. Paid professional work also gets written scope and terms first. Nobody should have to guess which route they are on.
