Day trip from Oslo to Fredrikstad with Denis

First time at one of these? Here's what it's like.

This trip did not happen on 8 August, and some of you went to Oslo S on Saturday morning for nothing. I am sorry, that one is on me. Everyone who paid gets refunded. Email martin@roomformore.no.

Get your ticket

That's what actually reserves your spot, checkout runs through Stripe. Your ticket arrives by email straight after, with a link you can keep and show on the day.

Stripe handles payment. The legal company name there is KI Eksperten Norge AS, the company behind Room for More.

THIS DID NOT RUN ON 8 AUGUST

The trip was called off late on Friday night, and the message did not reach everyone who had bought a ticket. So some of you stood at Oslo S on Saturday morning waiting for a group that was never coming. I am sorry. There is no version of that which is okay, and it was my job to make sure it did not happen.

What I am doing about it. Everyone who paid gets their 650 kr back, and you do not have to ask me for it or explain anything. If you would rather keep your ticket and come on the next one instead, you can do that too, just tell me which you want.

Email me on martin@roomformore.no and I will sort it the same day.

I am going to run this trip again, because the plan was good and the only reason it fell over was on my side. The new date goes up here as soon as it is fixed, and I will be the one running it.

Everything below is what the day was going to be, and what it will be next time.

Denis is taking a group to Fredrikstad on Saturday, and I'm putting it up here so it's easy to join and easy to pay for in one place.

We meet at Oslo S at 09:00, under the departure boards in the main hall, and walk down to the platform together. The train is the 09:14 and it takes about an hour. If the platform gets changed, which happens, it doesn't matter, because we go down as a group.

In Fredrikstad we head for Gamlebyen, one of the best preserved old fortified towns in Scandinavia. We walk around it together, and we stop somewhere to eat when people get hungry. Nothing's booked, so whether that ends up being one table or a couple of smaller ones depends on what's free when we turn up. Lunch is your own, it isn't part of the ticket. There's time to go off on your own for a bit too if you'd rather. We take the 18:46 train back, so you're in Oslo again the same evening.

What it costs

650 kr, and that covers your train both ways.

Lunch and anything else you buy during the day is your own, so bring a card.

Buying a ticket

Ticket sales close at midnight on Friday night.

That isn't me being strict about it. The train tickets get bought as one group booking before we travel, so once that's done the number is fixed.

You can cancel and get refunded yourself from your account page any time up until the night before. After midnight the automatic route closes, so message me instead and we'll work something out.

How many

Fifteen of us with Denis, so fourteen tickets. It's kept small on purpose, so it feels like a group rather than a tour.

What to bring

Shoes you can actually walk in. Gamlebyen is cobblestones and we'll be on our feet a good part of the day.

A jacket. It's August in Norway and we're outside most of the time.

A card for lunch.

If it rains we still go. It's a town, there are places to be indoors.

If something goes wrong in the morning

If you're late and miss us at 09:00, get on the 09:14 anyway and message the group, we'll find each other on the train or at the other end.

If you miss the train completely, message me and I'll tell you where we are.

Who's welcome

Anyone. You don't need to know a single person there, and turning up on your own is completely normal at these, most people do.
