Helping out
Room for More is run by people from the community, and this page is everything we send somebody who helps: how we host, how the different roles work, and how finished work reaches me. It's all readable without signing in, and every guide prints cleanly if you want it as a PDF.
If you'd like to help with something, get in touch. It starts with a conversation, not a form.
The guides
- What we stand for everyone
Why this exists, what we will not do, and how the money works. Start here.
- Handing things over everyone
Where finished work goes, what finished means, and a shape you can paste. The one to come back to every time.
- Community code everyone
The house rules for events and the chats. Hosts carry them, and anyone can read them.
- The roles everyone
The five roles that run this, each in a couple of sentences, and which guide to read if one sounds like you.
- Hosting basics role guide
The short version of running a night: arriving, warming up a room, wrapping up.
- Host quick reference reference
One page to keep open on your phone on the night.
- Hosting, the long version reference
Everything Martin has picked up, in one place. Skim it, then come back to it.
- When something goes wrong reference
What to do at an event when it stops being fun: the shape of it, the numbers to call, and the backing you have.
- Comms and content role guide
Writing recaps and posts: how it reads, the photo rule, and what you can put out without asking.
- Admin and partnerships role guide
Chasing venues and partners: how to write to one, and the line that never moves whatever they say.
- Events and operations role guide
Getting an event from idea to ready: the prep, the kit, and the planning board of what needs a name on it.
- Moderation and safety role guide
Looking after the room and the group chats. You never need permission to protect somebody.
If you're already helping
The team area has the rest: the weekly brief, what's coming up, and documents shared with your role. Same login as the rest of the site, and I add people to the team list by hand, so message me if it says you're not on it.
