Putting your name down means your first name can show on the event page for that date, so people coming on their own can see who to look for. Your photo only shows there while this switch is on. Turning it off hides every photo of you from those event pages; it does not delete a separate copy Martin may keep on the hosts page. Event pages can take about 20 seconds to pick up the change, and an image link that was already open can keep working for up to two minutes.
Your name only goes on a public page once Martin has written you into the hosts page, so nothing here puts you on the site on its own.
